“Dream Jar” is inspired by urns that preserve the cremated ashes of the dead. Instead paper stars fill the space of the ashes, replacing past memories with future hopes. When given to others, each paper star represents a wish or a dream and folding a star is a way of manifesting that desire for someone. In replacing the ashes you wish to remember loved ones by acknowledging their goals and wishing them good luck for whatever future awaits them. Intertwining ribbon bring the piece together, tying the jar like a gift for the undead. This piece was one of my first attempts at ceramics, creating the container using slabs and coils though a challenge was smoothing the walls without the use of a wheel.
